January 5, 2022 - Chairwoman of the Indonesian House of
Representatives, Puan Maharani, since last week reminded people who have
not received the COVID-19 vaccine to be vaccinated immediately and
hopes that the government will accelerate the delivery of COVID-19
vaccine booster and third vaccination dose.
Her expectation was
answered by the government announcing that the program for administering
the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will start on January 12, 2022
for adults, and is currently waiting for the results of the analysis
from the Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI).
The
government's plan, of course, has the full support of Puan, who hopes
that this third dose of vaccine can be given free of charge to the
public.
"The DPR RI provides full support for the implementation
of the Covid-19 vaccine booster program. We hope that the vaccine
booster will be given without any fees because public safety is the main
priority," said Puan.
According to her, the government must
ensure that all underprivileged people are included in the BPJS Health
Contribution Assistance/Penerima Bantuan Iuran (PBI) list, be it the
elderly or the general public, so that people from these groups get
health services without worrying about costs.
The good news is
that what Puan emphasized is in line with the government's plan which
has stated that they will provide the third dose of vaccine for free for
the elderly and PBI BPJS.
In a press release released by the
Press, Media and Information Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat on
Monday (3/1), the Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin said
the vaccine would be given to people aged 18 years and over who had
received the second dose of vaccine within the period of more than 6
months.
"This booster vaccination will also be given for more
than six months after the second dose. We identified around 21 million
targets in January in this category," said the Minister of Health after
attending a limited meeting chaired by President Joko Widodo.
Budi
said that booster vaccination will be given to districts/cities whose
vaccination targets have met the criteria for 70 percent of the first
dose and 60 percent of the second dose.
"So until now there are 244 regencies and cities that have met these criteria," said the Minister of Health.
The
Minister of Health said that the government had secured a stock of
around 113 million doses of booster vaccine out of a total requirement
of 230 million doses. Regarding the type of vaccine to be used, a
decision will be made after recommendations from the Indonesian
Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI) and the Food and Drug
Supervisory Agency (BPOM).
